A VIN verification is a physical inspection of your vehicle (car, truck, RV, semi-truck, or trailer) documented on the Reg 31 form. This process confirms the VIN, odometer, body type, year, make, model, and emissions label to prevent fraud and theft. It’s required for registering vehicles in California. Licensed vehicle verifiers, DMV, or CHP agents can perform these inspections, but salvage vehicles must be inspected by the DMV or CHP.
